This character introduced in 1600 century in latin America. The story tells that she was unloved by her husband and her husband was giving attention to her children and in jealousy she drowned both her children and at last drowned herself.
Some variation says that she was a poor girl from rural village and extremely beautiful. A young man from town saw her and proposed her and La Llorna couldn't deny him. Then they settled in her village and made 2 children and his husband moved towards town for work. He married another girl there and whenever he was coming he was not looking her just his children then when La Llorna found out second wife of her husband in anger and sadness she drowned her children then drowned herself. After death She was refused to heaven until she find her children's souls. So she is still wandering on river shore and takes other kids and drown them and after that realizes they were not her kids.
Another variation says that she was tricked by Satan to do those things and Satan had promised after those she will enter to heaven.
Encounter 1. A family on it's picnic saw a tall and thin woman was getting closer to their children who were playing on shore. Then they rushed to them and found no foot prints.
Encounter 2. Two teen aged boys sitting and playing on river alone and they found that a woman in black dress and covered her face with black net was wandering near to them. Then she sat with them and uttered to them," I will visit you again when you would argue with their mother". Hence made this very spooky .
This was all about La Llorna , in America she is called as "White Woman". That's why in movies in the name of her the character wears white gowns.
